FORMED TO REDUCE SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN RIVERSIDE COUNTY
The Riverside County Child Exploitation Team was formed in 2006 as a collaboration of multi-disciplined law enforcement agencies that included the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and the Riverside County Probation Department.
The task force’s mission was focused on reducing incidents of sexual assault countywide through comprehensive registered sex offender monitoring and enforcement.
When the task force’s operations commenced in 2006, Riverside County’s non-compliance rate of the sex registrants who failed to meet their obligation to register, as prescribed by California Penal Code §290, was at 22%. Through the efforts of the task force, the non-compliance rate was steadily and precipitously driven downward to a low 3% by the end of December 2012.

THE INCEPTION OF TECHNOLOGICALLY DRIVEN SEX CRIMES
In 2013, the Riverside County Child Exploitation Team pivoted their primary focus from enforcing sex offender registration laws to investigating technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and internet crimes against children within Riverside County.
The task force became an affiliate member of the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). The National Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program (ICAC) was created to help state and local enforcement agencies enhance their investigative response to offenders who use the internet, other online communication systems, or other computer technology to sexually exploit children.
The program is currently composed of 61 regional task force agencies and is funded by the United States Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
